RAF B-type flying helmet

RAF B-type flying helmet

Code: H19612

SOLD

Stores reference 22c/65.  Size 2 (67/8 - 7).  The overall appearance is very good '+' with supple undamaged leather.  Fitted with lightly scuffed zipped earpieces with original zips, one retaining its original leather puller tab.  Both earpieces retain their original rubber receiver carriers and were padded out with tissue paper for photography purposes.  Both rear straps and chinstrap are excellent, though the latter lacks the metal tip piece.  Both Bennett buckles are excellent with full leather covering.  The chamois lining is undamaged but quite soiled, partly with verdigris.  Both donuts are stitched such that they are 'independent' of the lining - see photographs.  Complete with small Air Ministry marked linen label at the inner crown.  Not manufacturer or date marked.  Sold unwired.  Wiring, receivers, microphones and jackplugs can be supplied at extra cost if required.   We purchased this 10 years ago from the niece of the original owner but the only details we have are that his name was Andison and he served as a wireless operator/air gunner on Wellingtons.  A very good example.  Stock code H19612.
