Extremely rare 'Turnerchute' manufactured by The Turner Parachute Pty. Ltd. of Sydney, Australia. 'Observer' type two point quick connector chest pack. Attaches to the observer-type harness by the engagement of a pair of steel loops with a pair of hooded snap-hooks located on the chest. Manufactured in an olive drab coloured plain weave duck canvas. It is complete with all the webbing grab handles, rip-cord flap and rip-cord handle housing. The cotton label is maker marked with serial number 'T1896' and production date, 17th Nov. 1944. The pack is generally in very good clean condition bar some waxy deposit on the edge of one flap and a frayed split at one corner as shown. Fitted with the correct ripcord/handle, attachment rings*/plates and four original bungees, unique to RAAF packs. Currently padded out with foam but comes with the 24' diameter silk (?) canopy originally issued with the pack. This does have some damage/holes towards the top but overall condition appears to be very good, most of the suspension cords remain in place with the original attachment rings. The canopy is clearly stamped with the Turnerchute logo, matching production date of 17th Nov. 1944 and identical serial number 'T1896'. The attached spring loaded drogue parachute also has the Turnerchute logo but does have damage/holes as shown. Finally, the pack and canopy come with the matching Turnerchute parachute bag which, bar one missing lift the dot fastener post is in excellent used condition. All original parachute equipment is becoming very difficult to find but Australian Air Force parachutes are among the rarest of all, and this example is in good '+' / very good overall condition and has matched serial numbers proving they have always been together. *This pair of attachment rings was added to make the pack appear complete, the rings that are original to the assembly are attached to the rigging lines of the canopy.
