SOLD

By Irving Air Chute of Great Britain Ltd.  RAF Seat Type Parachute Assembly.  'Parachute, Single point, quick release with seat pack.  Type C-2.'  Stores reference 15A/197.  Commonly referred to as the 'pilot's parachute'.  Classic white webbing with central fleck and very faded Air Ministry crown stamps on the risers.  Fitted with the correct fully rounded quick release (QR) box, waistbelt, ripcord housing, ripcord/handle and backpad.  The webbing harness is generally good but quite soiled, although evenly so.  Unfortunately there is some fraying/damage in three places close to where the pack is fitted, probably caused by a rodent chewing it.  The label is completely washed out but there are some markings on the reverse of the rip cord waistbelt as shown in the photographs.  The pack, manufactured in sandy coloured plain weave duck canvas, is in very good condition and has a large cotton label printed  'Irvin Air Chute - Aeroplane Type'  with a serial number '68024' and A.I.D. marks.  It comes complete with the original Irvin Air Chute Air Ministry marked canopy which has the same serial number as the harness, indicating this set-up has always been together and is not a 'marriage'.  To make things even better, it's dated 25th September 1940, so was made during the Battle of Britain.  A reproduction seat cushion has been fitted to the pack.  The backpad is in very good condition bar moderate soiling.  A good example of a very rare wartime seat harness that makes an impressive display piece.   Stock code SDFGF6.
