Single sheet, typed. Approximately 16.5 x 20cm. Dated 22nd May 1941. A 'Secret' letter sent by the Senior Air Staff Officer at Bomber Command HQ, 3 Group, to RAF Stations Feltwell, Honington, Marham, Mildenhall, Oakington, Stradishall, Wyton and Waterbeach. It outlines a case when the captain of an aircraft returned from a raid with one bomb remaining in the bomb bay. He had retained the bomb in order to drop it on his own selected target. Unable to find one, he brought it back. The letter goes on to say that 'this is a waste of effort, and shows a complete disregard for orders, by the captain concerned'. The paper is yellowed and creased with dog-eared edges and small filing holes. Annotated and signed by Wing Commander Mawood-Elton. One can only imagine the trouble and dressing down the pilot receieved for this misdemeanour. Stock code P27183-59.
