Documents relating to Flying Officer Alan Miller Pocock RAFVR (135698) who trained in America under the Arnold or British Flying Training Schools scheme, completing pilot training at the AAF Advanced Flying School, Craig Field on 13th December 1942. Clearly a competent pilot he went on to qualify as an instructor at the West Coast AAF Training Centre, Mather Field, California on 11th February 1943. Later he returned to the UK and RAF serving with 26 Squadron. Here we are offering a quantity of paperwork relating to Pocock including both qualification certificates, his aircrew lecture notes (includes Armament & Navigation info), RAF service & release book, pay books, promotion letters, lecture notes, 1943 diary, Royal Aero Club application forms, Mess bills, cheques, and his 'Wings Club' membership card dated 23rd November 1944. This club was formed to offer a recreational and social centre and to provide meals, refreshments, drinks and entertainment at reasonable prices for younger Allied Air Force Officers on leave or on duty in London. In addition there are numerous letters, some relating to the extension of his service and service with the RAF Reserve into the 1950s, a few photos and so on. Worthy of more research.
