RAF 1940 pattern flying gauntlets

RAF 1940 pattern flying gauntlets

Code: GA25133

SOLD

Stores reference 22c/425-430.  Size unknown.  Rare and sought after 'chemically heated' gauntlets.  Manufactured in untreated suede/sheepskin with chromed leather thumbs and gussets between the fingers.  An adjustable press-studded strap runs adjacent to the cuffs. Shearling lined with a proofed cotton pocket stitched into each glove, this was used to hold a chemical 'Everhot' bag which when dampened would provide heat for up to six hours.  In practice these gloves proved to be rather bulky and chemical burns were not uncommon.  This pair is a little dirty but otherwise in very good '+'condition without damage.  Both gloves retain the cuff strap, each with an A.I.D. stamp, good linings, and both internal cotton pockets.  1940 pattern gauntlets are difficult to find and when they do turn up are often in very poor condition.  This is one of the best pairs we have been able to offer for some years. Stock code GA25133.
