RAF 1941 pattern flying gauntlets, history

Code: GA26415

SOLD

Gauntlets, flying, 1941 pattern.  Stores reference 22c/759/764.  Size 9.5.  The leather is good used condition, very flexible and undamaged but with wear, use and soiling commensurate with age.  This is most noticeable on the palms and fingers.  Colour match is good and they appear to have very similar wear levels.  Fitted with original brass 'Lightning' branded zips, both complete with leather puller tabs.  The right zip has a little damage at the closed end but operates normally.  The left zip also has damage at the closed end that has been 'sealed' with solder.  A zip tooth is missing about half way along but the slider runs normally.  Both linings are a bit grubby but have Air Ministry, size and the owner's name/number (Cooper 510, 1852310) marked inside.  Basic research revealed that Herbert William Johnson Cooper (1852310), enlisted to the RAF at Oxford in November 1942.  It would be interesting to find more information on this airman.  A reasonable used pair.  Stock code GA26415.
