RAF B-type flying helmet

RAF B-type flying helmet

Code: H19050

SOLD

By H Bednall of Walsall.  Size 3 (71/8 - 73/8).  1938 dated.  The overall appearance is reasonable.  The leather is generally supple with good original finish.  There is a stitched repair to the right side panel (as worn) - this has been executed rather crudely and could probably be redone in a more sympathetic and careful way.   Fitted with zipped earpieces, both with good original zips but lacking receiver carriers.  The left earpiece (as worn) has some repairs and a flaking surface.   Closer inspection shows one of the oxygen mask attachment studs is starting to pull through the leather and will require careful handling to prevent further damage.  The chinstrap is in good order but lacks the metal end piece.  Both Bennett buckles retains their leather covering though the rear one has surface abrasion.  The chamois lining has relatively light even soiling with more at the back of the neck and donuts.  It is complete bar a few nicks and a small hole (see photo).  Complete with lovely large 1938 dated linen maker's label.  Unwired. Wiring, receivers, microphones and jackplugs can be supplied at extra cost if required.  With a super set of RCAF rubber cushions inside the earpieces.  Not without faults but could be improved and is an early dated example.  Stock code H19050.
