RAF type B flying helmet, 1940, modified

SOLD

By Frank Bryan Limited, London & Worcester.  Size 2 (67/8- 7).  1940 dated.  The overall appearance is good, the leather is quite clean, supple and has decent original chromed finish.  There are some surface abrasion marks on the crown/rear and a glue repaired cut at the back but these do not detract too much.  Fitted with zipped earpieces in good condition.   The left has a working original zip with leather pull tab, the right zip has some teeth missing and is probably best left in the closed position. Rubber receiver carriers are fitted within along with a set of RCAF rubber cushions.  The chinstrap still has the metal end piece and the Bennett buckle retains full  leather covering.  The backstrap and rear Bennett buckle are also very good.  The chamois lining is reasonably clean with less than average soiling, complete with both inner donuts and 1940 dated manufacturer's label.  There is a stitched repair corresponding to the glued repair at the back of the helmet.  This example has been modified for use with an early E-series oxygen mask with the addition of a single press stud fastener positioned externally on either side of the face making this quite a rare variant.  Unwired.  Wiring, receivers, microphones and jackplugs can be supplied at extra cost if required.  Overall a  good '+' used example.   Stock code H16249.
