Stores reference 6D/234 (with carrying bag*). Portable oxygen was used by aircrew at high altitudes when working away from their normal crew positions. The oxygen was supplied in 75-litre capacity black painted steel cylinders providing 10 minutes supply. A gauge at the top indicated the amount of oxygen remaining. Various stamps, contract/reference numbers are marked on individual parts. The brass collar on the cylinder, stores reference 6D/432, is marked 'Mk.VB' and also has Air Ministry King's crown and wartime date stamps 1/42 and 1/43 along with later inspection dates 6/57 and 1963. The Mk.IXC brass regulator, stores reference 6D/221, is A.M. & broad arrow marked and 1943 dated but the gauge is a later addition being 1959 dated. Condition is generally very good. Although of wartime production the bottle has clearly seen continued use into the mid 1970s with little more than extra date marks/stamps. These scarce items make an excellent display when attached to an oxygen mask via the tube (6D/101 connector) or extension tube (E/G/H-masks). This example is fitted with a 'clothing clip', stores reference 6D/1280, used to hang the bottle from a parachute harness when in use.
