RAF hand-held microphone

RAF hand-held microphone

Code: O24615

SOLD

Ultra rare handheld microphone, stores reference 10A/7850.  It has a bakelite handle with integral 'press while speaking' switch and the upper end has a bakelite mounting ring attached to the handle via an alloy plate.  The mounting ring is fitted with an incredibly rare Type D RAF mask microphone assembly, stores reference 10A/7867, as fitted to the ultra-rare type E microphone carrier mask and the even rarer type B oxygen mask.  Note that whilst the microphone itself is the same as the type 'E' carbon fitted into some type D masks, the outer casing is not.  The handle is in good condition but the mounting ring is cracked and has a glued repair.  The microphone, manufactured in alloy, is in very good order bar paint loss.  It retains the original switch and is coated with powdered cork internally.  The wiring is original but has been severed below the mcirophone.  No plug attached.  Only available as we have obtained another in slightly better condition.  Harder to find than a type 18/19 microphone, this is only the second example we've seen/had.  Extremely rare as a hand-held device or you could remove the microphone and mount it in a mask.  Stock code O24615.
