RAF type D oxygen mask with type 54 adaptor and loom

Code: O14726

SOLD

Stores reference 6D/105.  Classic fabric oxygen mask synonymous with pilots and aircrew of the Battle of Britain.  The overall shape of the mask is excellent and the cloth is extremely good with only minor moth damage at the nose and lower edge.  The mask's chamois lining is very good and quite clean with less than average soiling. The microphone mounting ring is in very good condition and complete with reference number stamped into the metal.  This mask has also been fitted with a rarely seen type 54 rubber adaptor allowing the use of the later period type 26 microphone (10A/12570).  The adaptor itself is quite hard/rigid but displays very well. The microphone, rubber sealing ring and mid tan coloured wiring loom are all excellent.  Fitted with a very good early brown cased bell jackplug (spring has surface corrosion).  A pair of face defenders are sewn in place for attaching the mask to a flying helmet.  Overall this is an excellent and scarce variant of an already very rare mask.  Further photographs available on request.
