SOLD

Stores reference  6B/234.  A substitute standard pilot's wristwatch by Waltham.  Essentially the same as the USAAF A-11 Waltham with a black dial and Arabic luminous numerals, white hands and red sweep second hand.  Fitted with an American made 36-hour keyless 16-jewel 'hack' lever escapement movement.  The chromed case is sound but has scratching and wear to the plating revealing the brass beneath in places.  Both dial and the crystal are very good to excellent.  Fitted with a stainless steel 'Bentex' (Bonclip style) strap.  The rear 'screw-back' cover has British War Department broad arrow, 6B/234 and serial code markings to the rear.  Under this  is an inner metal dust cap.  The actual movement is 'Waltham' signed and 42 dated.  The 'hack' facility that stops the movement when the crown is pulled out, appears to be in very good working order and the watch is keeping good time.  Unlike some of these that turn up, this is not an AAF A-11, re-issued and re-stamped for the RAF.  It was made specifically for the RAF.  At the moment these do not command the eye watering 4 figure sums of many standard 6B/159 pilot watches, making them a good investment.  Stock code C28073A.
