Official photograph, approximately 24 x 18.5cm.  It shows 'Pilots stand-by in the rest huts at the station.  One is seen taking it easy with his canine companion, whilst reading and table games also pass the time away'.  The pilots in this fabulous photo are from 602 Squadron Fighter Command based at Drem in Scotland.  They have been identified (left to right) as T.J. Strong, Flight Lieutenant Archibald Ashmore McKellar DFC, DSO with dog, Sgt. Cyril Frederick Babbage DFM and Flight Lieutenant Charles Hector MacLean.  The latter three all Battle of Britain pilots.  McKellar had multiple 'kills' but was shot down and killed on November 1st 1940.  Babbage also claimed a number of 'kills' and was shot down, baled out and safely picked up by Bognor lifeboat.  MacLean had 2 shared 'kill's but was shot down and sustained a severe leg injury during combat on 26th August 1940, crashlanding at Tangmere.  He was admitted to hospital where his leg was amputated.  Although this ended his flying career he became a Fighter Controller and remained in the RAF until 1945.  The photograph is captioned to the rear with March 1940 date.  A little creased around the edges/corners.  It comes with Hector MacLean's autograph on his own self-addressed writing paper.  Stock code P22873-254.
