Stores reference 1B/4465. 'Machete, Folding US Type'. Large machete with a single locking folding blade. Black composite/plastic grips with a metal loop on the end through which a leather wrist thong could be attached. The overall size is approximately 39.5cm when opened and 28cm when closed. There is wear and a few small cracks on the grip and although sharp, there is light surface corrosion to the metalwork and a few 'nibbles' on the blade edge. Complete with the often missing blade guard (a removable metal cover). No visible maufacturer's marks. These knives were issued as part of the survival kit with the Lightweight Flying Overall, better known as the 'Beadon' Flying Suit, and carried in the lower pocket on the left leg. Not to be confused with the near identical USAAF machete that lacks the lanyard ring. Stock code S15562.
