RAF Emergency Flying Ration, Mk.II c/w contents, 1944

Code: S27450

SOLD

Stores reference 27P/7.  Approximately 11 x 8.5 x 2.8cm.  Gilt coloured metal box similar to an old tobacco tin.  Printed with War Department broad arrow on the lid and with a list on contents on the base: barley sugar, chewing gum, malted milk tablets and energy tablets.  Dated 5/44.  The tin has light surface wear and a few small dents but all the text on the lid remains clear and legible.  The underside of the lid is printed with instructions for use.  Very unusually this example retains most of the original contents including four sealed packs of Horlicks (malted milk), two small packs of chewing gum, four barley sugar sweets and one small metal tube of energy tablets contained in a card box with an instruction leaflet.  There should be four additional tins of energy tablets, otherwise this is complete.  All contents fit snugly so we have not attempted to remove anything.  One barley sugar appears to have 'melted' a bit but everything else appears to be in good overall condition.  These rations were officially issued as part of the dinghy survival kit but saw wider distribution with lightweight survival flying suits and other kit.  Not for use or consumption.  A rare find.  Stock code S27450.
