Seat Pack, Type A, MK.III*. Stores ref. 27C/2245. The single-man Type K dinghy was carried folded and compressed within a variety of different packs and used in conjunction with the airman's parachute equipment. The Type A pack attached to the parachute pack in place of the usual seat cushion on the 'Pilot' seat type parachute harness. It contained the dinghy and equipment with a readily detachable top panel connected to the dinghy by a painter and to the pilot by a webbing strap. Manufactured in heavy olive drab cotton canvas, broadly rectangular in shape with a separate cover attached with press-studs. The pack has four parachute pack attachment tabs/studs and internal stowage pockets to house the accessories not carried within the dinghy itself. Multi-lingual label stitched to the cover. See Luftwaffe Vs RAF, Flying Equipment of of the Air War, 1939-45 by M Prodger, p.62/3.
This is the later war MK.III* version dating from around 1944. This is near identical to the MK.III bar minor internal storage arrangement. Condition is generally excellent. Probably the cleanest one we've ever seen and showing no wear. There is a small area of damage to the edge of the cover (possibly nibbled by a mouse!) but this does not deter from what is a lovely unused example. Has not been fitted with dinghy connectors. Photographed padded out but will be dispatched empty to reduce postal costs. Stock code S20951.
