RAF used signal flare tin - Green, c.1945

Box 540 MK.1.  Original metal container for 6 MK.1 Double Star Green Signal flares.  Such flares were used by downed airmen to attract attention and the different colours communicated different messages to potential rescuers.  Also used by the Army & Naval Forces.  Manufactured by the Metal Box Co. this black-painted rectangular metal tin with hinged lid measures approximately 15 x 9 x 3.5cm.  Details of the original contents are printed in light green along with a green star on the lid.  Clear May 1945 date.  Some scratches and paint loss but in very good overall condition.  Stock code M26312.
