RAF 1936 Pattern Flying Boots - History

RAF 1936 Pattern Flying Boots - History

Code: B20598

SOLD

Stores Ref. 22c/80. Size approximately 8 or 9. The leather is in good overall condition bar the usual nicks and cuts around the foot area. Both buckled straps are good but one of the buckles has surface corrosion.  Fitted with stitched 'Goodyear' rubber soles - very old replacements. The linings are somewhat grubby and there is some loss of fleece in the ankle area of the each boot. Complete with insoles. The puller tags have been removed as the previous owner found them irritating (see below).  These are 'issue' boots and should not be mistaken for the 'private purchase' pattern boot.

We purchased them directly from the 99 year old veteran with help from his daughter.  He obtained the boots when serving as a groundcrew flight mechanic with 83 Squadron.  They come with a signed and dated note stating when he obtained them, that he removed the inner boot pulls and that he is selling them to The Historic Flying Clothing Company. Although these have great provenance the lack of Air Ministry pullers affect the value so the boots are priced accordingly.  Stock code B20598.
