RAF Mae West heliograph, early pattern

Stores reference 6E/271.  Circular signalling mirror approximately 10cm in diameter.  Black bakelite backing/frame.  Adjustable leather hand strap with pronged brass buckle.  Engraved with King's crown Air Ministry markings.  The frame has minor wear and soiling but the mirrored glass is excellent.  Although the strap has surface wear and cracking it remains strong and flexible.  Period photographs show these mirrors being used on 1932 and 1941 pattern Mae Wests.  See photographs 8 & 9 showing pilots of 213 Squadron -  the chap on the right has one fastened around the grab handles of his 1941 pattern Mae West.  A rare piece in very good used condition.  Stock code MW21002.
