Two V-mails with envelopes c.1943/4 to/from a woman in Michigan, U.S.A. These come with a third envelope postmarked 07 Sept. 1944, overstamped to rear 'MISSING - Erol R. Coleman, 1st Lt, A.C., 703 Bomb Squadron (H), 445 Bomb Grp (H), dated Sep 29 1944. Brief research suggests this could be Erol R. Coleman from Nebraska (19063177), who enlisted as a private in the Air Corps during 1941. The 445th were based at Tibenham near Norfolk. The film star James Stewart was one of the 445th’s squadron commanders while at Tibenham. The unit flew over 250 missions from the airfield operating B-24 Liberators. The 445th was almost wiped out when, on 27 September 1944, they set out to bomb the Henschel facility in Kassel, Germany. Did Coleman make it back? Needs more research. Stock code P24215A-219.
