USAAF 9th AAF, 366th Fighter Group nose art photograph

SOLD

Approximately 11.5 x 9cm.  A good clear image of a 366th Fighter Group 'Thunderbolt' with nose art showing a bikini-clad woman on a tropical island beach. The pilot, Lt. Joe Richmond is standing on the wing in his A-2 jacket, B-4 lifevest, parachute harness, RAF C-type helmet, AN6530 goggles, A-14 mask, and A-6 boots, etc.  A great photograph.  The 366FG of the 9th AAF, known as the 'Gunfighters', was comprised of the 389th, 390th and 391st Fighter Squadrons.  They were initially based at Membury in Dorset (10/1/44), later moving to Thruxton, Hampshire (1/3/44).  They were heavily involved in the build-up to D-Day, moving to France on 17/6/44 and acting as ground support in the Battle of the Bulge.  Stock code P24215A-201.
