USAAF 9th AAF, 366th Fighter Group photograph

Code: P24215A-204

SOLD

Approximately 9.5 x 12cm.  A good clear image of an unknown pilot of the 366th  Fighter Group standing by the wing of his 'Thunderbolt', one hand on a droptank.  He is wearing an A-2 jacket, B-4 lifevest, parachute harness, A-11 helmet and MK.VIII goggles.  The aircraft serial number is just about legible with a lens.  A great photograph.  The 366th FG of the 9th AAF, known as the 'Gunfighters', was comprised of the 389th, 390th and 391st Fighter Squadrons.  They were initially based at Membury in Dorset (10/1/44), later moving to Thruxton, Hampshire (1/3/44).  They were heavily involved in the build-up to D-Day, moving to France on 17/6/44 and acting as ground support in the Battle of the Bulge.  Stock code P24215A-201.
