Rare survival backpack with integral backpad. Approximately 50 x 34 x 5cm, produced in heavy canvas with a 'Talon' zip fastener along on edge. Originally this appears to have been 'sealed' closed with a strip of webbing cloth tape to be opened when required. The pack is fitted with parachute webbing straps enabling this to be worn as a backpack. Internally there are pressed fibre divisions and elastic straps to separate/hold the contents. It would have contained survival rations/tools, a fishing kit, first aid kit etc. The back of the pack is painted blue and stencilled 'U.S.N.'. The other side is marked 'Warren'. Although similar to the USN M-592 survival pack this appears to be a different type, possibly an earlier variant. The vendor stated that it was used by a British Fleet Air Arm pilot operating in the Pacific theatre and this might be borne out by the 'RAF' type webbing straps used. Sold as seen without contents. Shows wear and soiling but in very good used condition with fully working zip. Stock code S23885.
