USAAF B-6 Winter Flying Helmet

USAAF B-6 Winter Flying Helmet

Code: H20247

SOLD

Size small.  1/4" shearling leather with seal brown chromed leather outer shell.  Has hook attachments for the A-9 oxygen mask.  Later examples were also fitted with press studs for use with the A-10R or A-10A oxygen masks.  The B-6 was officially replaced by the AN-H-16 in 1943.  The leather is in reasonably good overall condition.  It remains quite supple and is very clean but does have a small puncture to the rear left side and two larger splits on the lower right side as worn - see photos.  The mask hooks have some verdigris deposits.  The lining is good and very clean.  The chinstrap  is a bit grubby and the buckle has surface corrosion.  Retains both tightening cords.  Labelled.    Probably unissued.  Not without some problems but a good display piece.  Stock code H20247.
