'Mask, Field, Chamois'. A basic single layer, unlined facemask with simple webbing and elastic headstraps, and cutouts for eyes and mouth. These masks were designed to help prevent the oxygen mask and goggles from freezing to the face at altitude. The elastic section of the strap is a bit stretched and has lost much elasticity but overall condition is very good. Very supple, no damage and USAAF marked. In use these masks tended to absorb moisture and freeze at altitude. Because of this they proved unpopular and were produced in limited numbers. Stock code H21152.
