USAAF Cap, Flying, Winter, Type B-2. Constructed from 1/4" sheep shearling with a seal brown poly-acrylate finish. The cap features a large stiff peak and folding 'ear' flap. Although introduced for aircrews in 1939 it remained popular with aircrew and groundcrews throughout the war - particularly bomber crews with the 8th AAF when worn with a headset and mask. Overall condition is good to very good. The leather is a little dry but the cap only has minor surface rubbing and a small seam split as shown. The peak is more worn with surface crazing and some damage at the edges. The inside is very clean and undamaged. Stitch marks reveal evidence of a label, now absent. Displays well. Remarkably difficult to find. Stock code H26099.
