RAF B-type Flying Helmet

SOLD

Code: H18474

By Reliance Manufacturing Co. Size 2 (67/8 - 7). 1939 - 40 dated. The overall appearance is very good. The leather is supple with good original finish although lightly scuffed in places and with a little surface 'lifting' to the left side forehead panel (as viewed from the front). There is also minor seam separation at either side of the forehead panel opening (see photos). Fitted with RCAF type zipped earpieces in good condition and with good working original zips. Appears to have never been fitted with receiver carriers. The chinstrap still retains the metal end piece but the Bennett buckle has lost the leather covering. The backstraps & rear Bennett buckle are all good. The chamois lining has average soiling. Unusually mis-matched chamois donuts - one being considerably larger in diameter than the other although there is no doubt that they are both original to the helmet. Complete with large silk 1939 - 1940 dated label. Unwired. Wiring, receivers, microphones and jackplugs can be supplied at extra cost if required. This helmet was presumably shipped to Canada as part of the Empire Training Scheme and had the earpieces fitted when in the country. An interesting B-type variant. Photographed with rubber cushions inside the earpieces - these are not included in the sale. Overall this is a good/good '+' used helmet. Stock code H18474.
