RAF C-type Flying Helmet - Early Pattern

SOLD

Code: H19785

By Phelps & Co. Ltd.  Stores ref. 22c/452. Size 4. (73/8 - 71/2). Indian made example of the early, externally wired C-type.  The leather is darker in colour and a little thicker and coarser in texture than a British made example.  That said, it is in very good overall condition - a little crumpled but clean, quite supple and showing only minor scuffing and light wear. Fitted with 4 goggle straps. These are in black leather and have some surface cracking/wear.  The press stud coatings have lost the majority of the original coating.  The chinstrap is also near black, again there is surface cracking and half of the metal end tip remains. The Bennett buckle is very good although the metal components have some corrosion.  Both rubber receiver carriers are quite flexible but they have small cracks at the base of the 'U' shaped wiring channels.  These do not present a problem and would be simple to repair with glue if required.   Fitted with 3 press studs to each side making this suitable for E-series and G-type oxygen masks when using a 'flat hook' adaptor.  Average even soiling of the lining that has a cotton label stitched into the crown.    Some of the helmet press studs have verdigris deposits - this is particularly notable on the reverse of the studs within the lining.  Sold unwired. A good '+' / very good used example in the largest size available. Stock code H19785.
