Stores ref. 22c/583, size 3. 71/8 - 71/2. Cotton canvas helmet intended for use in tropical/desert climates in the Middle East, Mediterranean, North Africa etc and incorporating a neck flap at the rear to provide sun protection. The material is in in very good condition bar a small hole towards the front of the centre right panel (as worn). It does however have some general soiling, minor rust staining and has 'SPARE' painted across the forehead panel. Good straps - all the press studs retaining the majority of their original coatings. The rubber receiver carriers on this first pattern helmet are stitched externally and have a large exposed 'flange'. They are in very good fully flexible condition. The satin lining is good bar a few small nicks and moderate even soiling - the inner donuts in this one are in chamois and in good condition. Both felt panels (inner forehead area and back of chintab) have some small holes and wear (see photos). The leather chinstrap was missing when we obtained the helmet but has been replaced with an original. It too is in good order and retains the metal end tip. The Bennett buckle is very good. The helmet is studded for use with both the Type D oxygen mask and later E and G-series masks. Sold unwired and without receivers but these can be supplied separately if required. A good used example of this rare early variant. Stock code H19874.
