The M4-A2 steel helmet was standardised in 1944 an replaced by the M5 in 1945. It was fitted with hinged earflaps, covered entirely in a heavy olive green cotton fabric, lined in olive drab nylon and had webbing goggle straps at the back. It had a simple leather strap and quick release buckle.
This example has some external fading and staining. The main lining has suffered from mouse damage resulting in perhaps 40% loss. Fortunately the earflaps were left intact. The right earflap is partially unstitched but this is only visible from the underside and not seen if displayed/worn. The chinstrap has surface wear/cracking and part of the quick release buckle is missing. Nevertheless this helmet is in reasonable overall condition and displays well. Priced accordingly.
