USAAF / USAF C-2A One-Man Life Raft & Spares

SOLD

Code: SOLD-1182

Raft, Pneumatic Type C-2A. By the New York Rubber Corp. Dated Dec. 1953. Spec. Nr. MIL-R-5863A. Based on the classic one-man RAF Type K dinghy, the C-2A was a modification of the WW2 AAF C-2. Although introduced near the end of WW2 this saw most use during the Korean war. It differed from its predecessor in not having pockets for a mast thwart and having a built-in rubber socket for the radio reflector MX-137/A. It retains the rubberized fabric spray hood but the apron on this example has been carefully removed as has part of the CO@SPEACH@ inflation cylinder sleeve. It retains a water @APOS@box@APOS@ on the underside to aid stability and is stencilled with user instructions around the bouyancy chamber. The overall appearance of this example is very good. It is clean and very supple. Whilst untested it would seem reasonable to suggest that it might still hold air. The life raft comes complete with nylon sea anchor, oral inflation top-up tube and correct canvas storage pack for attaching to back and chest type parachute harnesses. The pack is grubby but in undamaged. Overall this is a good example of its type and could be used for a late war or Korean war display. Stock code S18833.
