WW1 R.F.C. Sidcot Flying Suit

SOLD

Code: SOLD-1155

By Robinson & Cleaver. Developed during the winter of 1916 by Sidney Cotton of the RNAS and patented by his friend, J Evans of Robinson & Cleaver, London. The @APOS@Sidcot@APOS@ suit is one of the most well known items of flying clothing. A one-piece khaki twill proofed cotton outer with a rubberized cotton interlining and @APOS@fur@APOS@ lining. It had a large buttoned chest flap, open pockets on the knees and buttons at the wrist and ankles. This example is in fair condition being faded and worn with soiling and spot marking. Some fraying and wear at the @APOS@edges@APOS@ of the suit and considerable patching througout. The patches are generally well executed and many appear to be @APOS@period@APOS@ and in the same material. The damage/cut to the centre back panel has been covered with some form of tape fabric and could be improved upon. An adjacent tear would be an easy repair. One of the ankle buttons is missing but all other buttons are present and appear to be original. The lining appears good and has the original though tatty label. With original/worn belt, collar strap/buckle and additional @APOS@rigger made@APOS@ fur collar. Not in fantastic condition but a good representative example that could be improved with a little work. Almost 100 years old and now extremely hard to find. More photos available on request. Stock code S18564.
