R.A.F. First Aid Outfit, Aircraft

These were carried in larger multi-man aircraft. The number of kits supplied depending on the number of aircrew aboard. The kit is contained in an OD canvas bag with a friction buckle fastening. The approximate size being 20 x 8 x 15cms. It has a non-standard leather shoulder strap with buckled adjustment. The contents varied depending on the the location it would be used in but most had a selection of bandages, dressings and so on. This example comes with the original list of contents and instructions for use (RAF Form 1203A, Naval Form M257A). This is printed on card dated January 1941 and contained in a greasepaper envelope. The kit includes 3 iodine ampoules in card tubes; ampoules, tubunic, morphine (squeezed) with original metal case; 4oz tube of Gentian Violet anti-burn jelly; tin containing 2yds plaster, adhesive; tourniquet; absorbent lint; absorbent cotton wool (1 of 2 missing); gauze (1 of 2 missing); compressed triangular bandages and a 1939 dated RAF shell dressing. The contents list notes that certain things have been @APOS@cancelled@APOS@ (chalk & opium, aspirin, cathartic tablets and quinine) & as such these are not included. There should also be labels with the morphine tin, 2 small camel hair brushes & 6 safety pins but these are missing. Having said that the majority of the contents are complete making a nice set-up.
