U.S.A.A.F. A-10 Flying Boots

SOLD

Code: SOLD-807

By Bristolite. Size large. Technically, @APOS@Shoe, Flying, Heavy Winter, Type A-10@APOS@. Standardized in July 1941. Knee length and manufactured in 3/4@SPEACH@ pile sheep shearling reinforced with horsehide seams. Fitted with adjustable ankle straps and drawstring tops. Rubber soles with @APOS@tire cord@APOS@ cleats. Intended for wear with the A-11 shoe which was essentially a sheepskin slipper insert and with B-7, B-8 jackets/A-6, A-7 trousers. Due to the raw unfinished sheepskin these boots were too permeable to water vapour and deemed unsuitable for Arctic regions. Their status was downgraded to limited standard in August 1942. Now extremely rare to find. This pair is in extremely good used condition. Obviously there is soiling to the sheepskin and some wear but no rips, tears or repairs. The ankle straps are sound although there is light verdigris on the buckles. The boots retain the original leather laces/ drawstrings, top @APOS@pullers@APOS@ and labels with 1942 contract dates. The original soles show some wear & use revealing the @APOS@tire cords@APOS@ within the rubber. The linings also appear to be very good. A super pair of very rare boots and in a good displayable size. This is only the second pair we have had in the last 20 years. Stock code B16870.
