French L'Armee de L'Air Pilot's Greatcoat

SOLD

Code: SOLD-618

By P. Vignal of the Boulevard Saint Germain, Paris. Dark (Louise) blue wool double breasted Officiers Superieurs (senior officer@APOS@s) greatcoat. It has flapped slanting side pockets and a half belt and buttoned skirt vent to rear. There are gold embroidered passants on the shoulders and rank braid for Lieutenant Colonel on the cuffs. Overall appearance is reasonable. There is moth trailing over the coat but only a few holes. At some stage an extra button hole appears to have been added and later stitched up again (see photo). There is also repaired damage to one of the turn back cuffs (see photo). The lining is good. Remants of a second label remain in one of the inner pockets. The previous owner had the greatcoat cleaned and the label washed out completely. Fortunately he photographed this label prior to washing . The label gives details of the original owner, Jean Magnan, service number 49127 and was dated 22 Fevrier (February) 1940 (see photo). Magnan@APOS@s cap and higher (later war) ranked tunic are also listed on the website. You are buying the greatcoat alone, not the cap shown in one of the photos. Another extremely rare item. Stock code U16697.
