Tankard Commemorating Pilot's First Flight

Sheffield Pewter tankard by Phillips of Aldershot. Nicely enhanced with a super enamelled Volunteer Reserve wing and engraved @APOS@R.A.F. Leicester Town Centre - R.K. POTTER - FIRST SOLO - 27th December 1932@APOS@ We know from other related items that Potter flew in - D.H.60M G-AASM@APOS@. The aircraft mentioned was a De Havilland Tiger Moth trainer originally owned by Henlys (1928) Ltd. Leics. and Brooklands FC Ltd . Although Potter, a member of the RAFVR evidently trained in this aircraft and undertook his first solo flight in it, less than 2 years later it was written off in a crash at Cheam (22.4.34). Pilot Officer Potter is known to have completed the 67th Flying Instuctors@APOS@ Course (8th War Course), at the Central Flying School (CFS), Upavon in July/August 1940 and was a Staff Officer at the CFS in July 1941, along with several Battle of Britain pilots (see other photograph items and second tankard). Very good used condition - perfectly useable. Lovely badge. Stock code M16607.
