FAA N-Type Flying Helmet, Intermediate Patt.

SOLD

Code: SOLD-421

Often incorrectly referred to as the FAA D-type and now known to be the Type N. Size unknown but would guess a 3 or 4. Intended for use in tropical/desert climates in the Middle East, Mediterranean, North Africa etc and incorporating a neck flap at the rear to provide sun protection. The material is in excellent condition apart from light soiling. The straps, 2 rear goggle straps only, are very good and retain most of their original coatings. This being a Fleet Air Arm helmet it is fitted with zipped leather earpieces - one is excellent but the other has some loss of chroming and surface abrasion. They both have excellent zips. The earpieces are complete with original receiver carriers in place and are padded with home-made foam rubber cushions. The satin lining has average soiling and has pulled away from the studs in a few places and has a small stiched repair (see photo) nothing serious. This is an intermediate pattern helmet having an elasticated webbing chin strap (stretched and lacking elasticity) but utilizing external wiring (not present). Studded for use with early Type D oxygen masks as well as the later E, G & series masks. Marked to the rear of the neckflap with the owner@APOS@s name. Also has a clear FAA King@APOS@s crown and anchor mark the back of the helmet. Good @APOS@+@APOS@ to very good used overall. Stock code H15887.
