RAF First Aid & Early Treatment of Burns

Air Ministry Pamphlet 168, 1st Edition, May 1944.  P/b, approximately 13 x 21cm.  17p.  Produced for the advice of medical officers, particularly those at squadrons and in the field, who have to deal with cases at the scene of the accident.  The booklet covers avoidence of burns and gives clear photographic evidence of the protection afforded by gloves, helmets, goggles and other flying clothing.  It also deals with 'burn shock' and how seriously burnt aircrews could appear to be well and initially fare better than less seriously burnt men.  Burn shock victims later deteriorated rapidly if not treated appropriately.  The pamphlet lists the burns centres within the UK, including the Queen Victoria Hospital at  East Grinstead, made famous by pioneering plastic surgeon Sir Archibald McIndoe and his 'Guinea Pigs'.  Advice is also given on transportation of burn cases and first aid treatment/dressing.  A really fascinating document but please do note that this containts graphic images of severe burns.
The cover is  a little soiled and creased with minor damage.  Internal pages are well thumbed but perfectly legible.  Stock code P17200.
