1930s Norah Wellings RAF Doll

SOLD

Code: M20593

Manufactured by Norah Wellings who was a chief doll designer for Chad Valley prior to establishing her own company.  This R.A.F. mascot doll was created during the 1930s/early 1940s and stands approximately 25cm / 10" tall.  It is modelled as an airman wearing full dress uniform including jacket with stand collar, brass buttons, aiguillettes, belt and the familiar busby with ostrich feather plume (modelled in felt).   The doll is soft bodied with felt hands and a hard stuffed/moulded fabric face with hand painted features.  The uniform is made in velvet with a felt belt, metal buckle and wire rank lace and aiguilettes.  The busby is constructed from felt, fur fabric and wire.  Black velvet boots with woven label  'Made in England by Norah Wellings".

Overall condition is excellent.  There are a couple of small stitched repairs under each armpit but otherswise the doll is remarkably clean and damage free.  These dolls are highly sought after by doll and RAF collectors alike.  A charming 1930s/wartime momento.  Stock code M120593.
