RAF MK.1A Flying Helmet

SOLD

Code: H21084

Stores reference 22C/2216.  Size 2 Narrow.  By Helmets Ltd. of Wheathampstead.  1965 dated.  Classic early bonedome worn in conjuction with the type F or G inner helmet that held the avionics and to which an oxygen mask could be fitted.  The MK.1A is a basic protective helmet in leather lined fibreglass.  It has a simple nylon webbing suspension system fitted inside to give a comfortable fit over the inner cloth helmet (not supplied).  An anti-glare visor is fitted, comprising a centre rail attachment and mechanism with a replaceable tinted acrylic anti-glare screen.  The original silver paint has been oversprayed in green as many were during the 1970s/80s.   Conditon appears to be good although the paint has been applied over the goggle press studs and there is overspray on the rubber edge roll due to poor masking.  The paint has some scratches and chipping. The rubber edge roll is complete and generally good but has some crazing.  The lining has average wear/soiling and is named to the owner.  The visor track mechanism is in working order and the tinted visor is good with only minor surface wear and scuffs -  these can often be removed with metal polish.  Good chinstrap. Complete with velveteen visor cover.   Stock code H20954.
