RAF Station Sector Clock, Type 1

Type 1 Operations Room Clock. 14" white dial with silk screen printed markings in a solid mahogany 18" diameter case. 8-day Elliott single fusee movement (serial number 18280 ) with 1941 date. The dial is in nice original condition. Totally unrestored, this shows some paint loss in the usual areas - where the dial posts are attached; the edges of the key winding hole, around the central hole for the hands spindle and the edges of the dial. In addition there is minor surface corrosion, paint flaking and crackling - see photographs.  There appears to be some anti-rust paint applied to the areas of loss near the centre of the dial. The RAF crest remains in very good condition and most of the paint loss at the dial edge is hidden behind the bezel. The case is in excellent condition but lacks one of the original dowel pegs. The back box is stamped with Elliott and Air Ministry marks. The lower access door lock is present complete with key. The original cast brass bezel is equally good with a quality hinge consumate with the period of the clock. It is unclear as to whether the bezel was originally blackened but it now has a lovely matt patina. The movement has been cleaned and lubricated by our professional clock-man (note cleaned, not stripped and polished) and is running well and keeping good time. The pendulum is original bar the suspension 'feather'. All in all this is a lovely unmolested clock.  We prefer to have clocks with totally original dials even if this means some rust and paint loss and believe these to be of far more historical value than repainted or refinished examples. That said, the dial could be sensitively improved with careful restoration at the centre of the dial but we will leave this to the buyer to decide.  A rare opportunity to own one of the classic clocks as used in the WW2 Operations rooms of RAF stations. A very good working display item.  Please note this is a large and heavy item.  We would prefer the buyer to collect but will post worldwide.  Please note that whilst we will pack this item with extreme care most courier companies will not insure clocks in transit.  More photos are available now on request.
