USAAF Bancroft 'Flighter' Visor Cap

SOLD

Code: U21142

Small size. Chocolate olive drab wool/gabardine with a yellow satin lining and greasepaper cover.  Mid tan leather bill/visor and strap. Quite clean and largely moth free bar a few small holes/nips, mainly on the crown - see photographs. Fitted with front and rear straps in good condition bar very easily removed soft verdigris deposits on the buckle and buttons.  The soft visor/peak is super-flexible with minor wear at the edge and light marking.  Bancroft Flighter markings to the inner leather band and no patent numbers marked, indicating this to be of WW2 manufacture.  The greasepaper liner has stiffened as usual but remains largely intact. Good badge.  The cap is a bit mis-shaped and looks a bit lop-sided from poor storage.  When placed on a display head this largely disappears.  This is a true crusher cap with a single thickness of leather on the peak making it very flexible. Bancroft 'Flighters' are generally acknowledged as the cream of AAF caps. Named 'FEAST'. Good used overall. Stock code U21142.
