RAF MK.IX Flying Spectacles, Cased

SOLD

Code: G20536

Spectacles, Flying, MK.IX.  Stores reference 22c/994. These were supplied on prescription only with untinted corrective lenses. They resemble ordinary reading glasses with cellulose acetate frames and two pairs of side-pieces supplied (side-arms) - each attached to the frame hinge via a small threaded pin and knurled nut.  One pair is a relatively standard set of metal side-arms and the other consists of short loop-ended flat metal side-pieces to which is attached a looped adjustable elastic strap.  The frames are good but the corrective lenses have delamination marks.  Currently fitted with the metal side-arms that are War Department broad arrow and reference number marked.  The hinges work well but the knurled nuts are stiff and will require lubrication should you wish to change the arms.  The elastic /metal arms are also good bar light tarnishing.  These are also marked with broad arrow and reference numbers and both sets of arms are engraved with the owner's name/number. The spectacles come in the original velvet lined card case with a photocopy of the instructions.  This pair came directly from the owner's family.  He flew on Lancasters with 207 Squadron between 1944 and 1947 and the spectacles comes with a few service details and 2 photocopy photos.   Good/good '+' used condition.  Extremely rare to find as these were issued in relatively low numbers.  Stock code G20536.
