RAF Seat type parachute assembly

SOLD

Code: S21024

RAF Seat Type Parachute Assembly.  'Parachute, Single point, quick release with seat pack. Type C-2.'  Stores reference 15A/197. Commonly referred to as the 'pilot's parachute'.  Classic white webbing with a central black fleck and Air Ministry King's crown marks on both front risers.  Correct fully rounded quick release (QR) box, waistbelt, ripcord housing, ripcord/handle and backpad.  The parachute pack itself is manufactured in the usual sand coloured canvas and has a small label printed 'Pilot's Type, Stores ref. 15A/96' and date stamped '2 SEP 1940'. The pack is fitted with four bungee cords, all in good condition, and contains an original wartime Irvin Air Chute Co. canopy (24' diameter) with clear '3 JUN 1940' manufacture date.  It appears to be complete with full rigging lines and in good condition but we have not unpacked it completely to check.  The spring loaded drogue parachute is absent/loose but we may have a spare that can be included.

The webbing harness is in excellent clean condition. It is unlabelled and there is no evidence of one having been removed.  The pack is in reasonably good condition and quite clean but it does have some damage and a few stitched repairs at the corners/flaps.  In addition to the label there is an Air Ministry King's crown stamp. The seat cushion is undamaged and  the foam rubber insert is in good order/flexible. The backpad is in also in good condition bar light soiling and wear to the straps and stud fasteners. This has never been labelled but does have Air Ministry and commonwealth issue marks. A good complete example of  a rare wartime seat harness with Battle of Britain dates.  This makes an impressive display piece.  More photos available on request. Stock code S21024.
