RAF MK.II flying goggles, history

Goggles, Flying Lightweight. Stores Ref. 22c/44. More commonly known as the MK.II. Technically an interwar pattern but still in use well into the early years of WW2. Blackened brass frames backed with fur trimmed knitted brown silk. Grey green tinted lenses. Distinctive strap having two sprung sections joined via a chamois backed leather piece. The frame is good bar some verdigris marking on the right side (as worn).  Excellent lenses, knitted silk backing and edge trim. The strap springs are undamaged but there is some damage to the leather covering such that the they are exposed in places.  The centre rear strap has some surface cracking and the adjuster has some surface corrosion.  There is an AID type stamp on the chamois of the strap. Rare to find these days. Not to be confused with the many variants of MT driver goggles on the market. This pair was purchased some years ago, directly from the veteran who flew Typhoons with 245 Squadron. Good '+'  used condition.  Stock code G15650.
