RAF 1932 Pattern Mae West

SOLD

Code: MW21546

'Waistcoat, life-saving, inflatable stole type - temperate pattern'.  Stores reference 22c/55.  Size medium.  The archetypal Battle of Britain Mae West commonly referred to as the '1932 pattern' due to the year of introduction.  Manufactured using unbleached linen, dyed drab green and rubber proofed on the inside of the parts that contained the inflatable stole and kapok pads.  Overall condition is fair. Much of the linen is in very good condition but some areas are peppered with holes, notably to the 'side' of the left lobe, side panel and 'neck' as worn.  There are also smaller holes at the front of both lobes at the base, a few to the front of the neck/collar and minor holes elsewhere.  There is general staining and a rust/dye stain down the left lobe.  The neck/collar is greasy through use.  Stencilled with various 'user' instructions to the front lobes.  Complete with functioning original 'Lightning' zip, buttons and buckled straps.  This example has never been modified with the additon of leg straps or pockets. Clear Air Ministry label with 1940 date. Comes with its original kapok pads.  Whilst this has a fair amount of damage this is largely confined to the left side of the waistcoat.  The vast majority of the right lobe and back section are in very good condition.  We have tried to show all significant damage in the photographs and can provide more on request.  These Mae Wests are of exceptional rarity and very sought after by collectors.  This could be your only chance to obtain an original.   Stock code MW21546.
