USAAF Bancroft 'Flighter' visor cap

SOLD

Code: U21376

Not sized but believed to be approximately  7 - 71/4, (measures about 58cm). Chocolate olive drab wool/gabardine with a yellow satin lining.  Mid tan leather bill/visor and strap. The material is a bit soiled in places but is largely moth free bar a few small holes/nips, mainly around the sides - see photographs. The  front  strap is also a little dirty and dry but in good undamaged conditon. The soft visor/peak is super-flexible but does have some marking to the chromed leather and  further soiling and wear to the underside.  It has become a little mis-shaped through wear/storage but this largely disappears when worn/displayed on a head.  Bancroft 'Flighter' markings to the inner leather band. No patent numbers marked, indicating this to be of definite WW2 manufacture.  The greasepaper liner has been removed at some stage.  Good badge.  This is a true 'crusher' cap with a single thickness of leather on the peak making it very flexible. Bancroft 'Flighters' are generally acknowledged as the cream of AAF caps. A good used cap in a generous size. Stock code U21376
