RAF D-type flying helmet, late patt.

Stores reference 22c/971.  Size 3.  Intended for use in tropical/desert climates in the Middle East, Mediterranean, North Africa etc. this cotton drill  helmet incorporates a neck flap at the rear to provide sun protection.  The material is in excellent condition with no damage or holes.  It is generally clean but does have minor spot marking.  The straps are good and one press stud has virtually all of the brown paint coating. The other studs have variable amounts remaining.  The rubber receiver carriers are also excellent.  Lined in off-white satin which is generally quite clean bar  some light brown/pink coloured stains.  The only damage to the lining is where it has pulled away from the press studs in places (see photos).  The chamois donuts remain quite clean.  Fully wired with light tan coloured loom (connector type 2091), black cased jackplug and matched type 32 receivers (10A/13466).  The elasticated webbing chinstrap is a bit grubby but does retain some colour and elasticity.  Stamped with War Department broad arrow and  reference markings.  A  very good '+' / excellent used helmet.   Stock code H22258.
