USAAF A-2 flying jacket

SOLD

Code: J21400

By J.A. Dubow Mfg. Co.  Chicago, Illinois.  Marked as a size 38 and has a physical pit to pit (x2) measurement of about 38 - 39".  The classic A-2 flying jacket.  Seal brown leather with matching cotton lining.  The leather is generally very good to excellent with no rips or repairs.  It seems to be strong and although a little dry in places, it remains good and supple.  The only 'faults' are some wear/abrasion on the elbows, a small seam split under the arm (easy repair) and pulled seams at the top of the pockets.   Complete with all the usual A-2 features including the collar snaps and hook, leather hanger, underarm vents, label and original 'Crown' zip.  Unfortunately the left side of this is damaged and would require replacement if you wanted to close the zip.  The right side of the zip tape and slider are in good order but we can probably supply an original 'Talon' brand zip at extra cost if required.  This jacket retains its original chocolate brown wool knitted cuffs, both with fraying and holes.  The original knitted waistband  also has some holes but is in much better condition and quite presentable.  The lining is also generally very good although there are a few holes/slits adjacent to the collar/lining seams (see photo).  There is clear evidence that the jacket originally had a large circular squadron/unit patch stitched to the left breast.  Stitch holes can also be seen on the epaulettes where leather rank bars have been removed.  Overall this is a very good solid jacket.  It could be tidied up with a new zip and repairs to the lining and/or re-cuffing but we will leave this up to the new owner.   Additional photographs available on request.  Stock code J21400.
